The First Step in Making Time for God as a Single Mom
God knows how busy you are…
Thankfully, the Lord has has given us very clear instruction regarding what matters MOST.
I know many of us may have heard the “Martha and Mary talk” before, PLEASE don’t assume you know where I am going with this and read on…
In His interaction with Martha and Mary Jesus explains what our top priority should be:
Luke 10:38-42
Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
Knowing Our Priority
Mary was sitting at Jesus’ feet and listening to Him teach. For us, this may be time in prayer, reading and/or studying the Bible, singing songs rich in the gospel message or character of God etc.
We Have a Choice
Do you see? Mary was choosing to listen to Jesus’ teaching.
If you are reading this post, chances are you are seeking to know more about God. Jesus has made clear that this is the one thing that is necessary. It can be hard to trust this when you have a million other things going on, but read on…
God’s Response When We Choose Him First
One thing that keeps peoeple from being consistent in making time to “seek the Lord” is lack of knowledge regarding God’s RESPONSE to us choosing what He has told us our priority ought to be.
Jesus’ words from Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you echo within His words to Mary. When I read this passage, the sweetest bit for me is when Jesus says that what Mary has chosen will not be taken from her. That is why I put it in bold. I want it to stand out for you, too!
When we know what God’s response to us is going to be, giving up is less attractive. This is because we know that He has promised to make a way according to His will…no matter what our circumastances are.
If You Want to See this Work in Your Life
Ask Yourself, “do I believe this?”
I mean, really believe it-as in a working belief that is lived out; not an aspiration.
Making time for God in your life as a Christian single mother may seem impossible, BUT with God all things are possible and He has promised not to take it away.
The FIRST step in Making Time for God is to Choose to Trust Biblical Truth
God has defined your top prioroty, seeking Him first
You have the option to choose what you want to priortize
When you choose to seek God first, He will not take this away from you
His will as written in Scripture is for you to seek Him first. You can trust that He will make a way.
